As I was listening to Ronee, I wrote the words "Expectations" and "Truthfulness" on the handout. Every human being possesses a will to dominate, partly expressed in the expectations we have of others. Life would be so much easier if we only expect high standards of character and virtue from ourselves, and not from others. We should maintain high standards for others too, but not be too disappointed if they fail to meet them. This can only come about if we are strict with ourselves and benevolent towards others. Not that infractions should always be overlooked, we do need to enforce standards and punish willful disobedience, but we do need to recognize that not everyone is at the same level of character development, and not all the time, at that. I wrote "Truthfulness" to remind myself that I should in no wise defraud anyone in my speech and conduct. To "defraud" is to cause someone to expect something from me which I cannot lawfully deliver. Susan Guan Program: Psychological Contract & Its Impact On Work Performance I am currently working as a Manager in a 5 star hotel. As I was putting my little girl to sleep, my guest called me up and said that the front desk told her there is only 1 room being blocked under her name (when there should be a total of 3 rooms-as per my reservation form faxed to the reservation dept.). Apparently, the reservation staff, Ms.R has gone back and has made a mistake in the booking. I called my head of department, he didn't answer. SMS him and didn't even get any reply from him. Spoke to my section head and brief her on the situation. She also has gone back but I decided to go to the hotel (thank god I live 5min away from the hotel) and worked together with the Duty Manager in finding 2 more rooms for the guest (as I didn't get any response from the head of department). We (Duty Manager & I) decided to call the Hotel Manager to ask for advice as we were running full house. We managed to get the 2 rooms for the guests, went to check on the rooms and prepared the key. Guest had to wait nearly an hour for her room but managed to apologised for the inconvenience caused and she was pleased as she has gotten her rooms. If I had not sit in for this Psychological Contract & Its Impact On Work Performance session, I would just panic, curse & swearing to the reservation staff for making such a mistake and making me come back to the hotel! But surprisingly, automatically I stayed calm n tried to find solutions to solve the problem (even though deep inside my heart I was upset). Managed to give the room key and also apologised to the guest and she went off with a smile on her face. This session REALLY helped me a lot in my carrier and the way I handle things/situation in life. I would recommend EVERYONE to at least give this session a shot and see the difference!!
